Having undertaken several projects for Link4Life over the last three years at sites throughout the Borough of Rochdale, Unique Systems were given the opportunity to create a total audio visual, digital messaging system and lighting solution for the proposed £14.3 Middleton Arena.
The remit from Link4Life was to design a 'WOW' factor into the site by utilising LED lighting to three main areas: the main gym, the overflow gym and the dance studio. The design team at Unique were also asked to provide a full multi source background sound system capable of linking into the fire alarm evacuation system along with the main site PA system and a stand alone local sound system to provide music into the studio.
The LED lighting used for the main gym was fully programmable and made a feature of the exposed steelwork running the length of the gym, the lighting units were fixed at the top of the recess of each length of steel throwing light down the whole shaft of the girder, GOBO projectors were also installed into this area with the site logo oscillating down to the ground at the entrance to the gym. In the overflow gym Unique used larger LED units to fully colour wash one of the main walls again with fully programmable control which also included sound to light technology.
The studio had to be adaptable to cater for the vast array of classes ranging from yoga and pilates to high impact aerobics and spinning. Again, Unique used a colour wash technique to wash one wall subtly from about 2.4 metres downwards, this combined with mid air effect sound to light cannons gave options ranging from a tranquil ambience for the like of Yoga right up to a full sound to light high energy atmosphere for the more energetic classes.
A majority of the sound for the background sound system was delivered via intelligent hard drive units, thus taking away the necessity for any user input, ensuring the right genre of music is playing at the right time of day.
Over the past 3 years Unique Systems (AV) Ltd have developed an excellent partnership with Link4Life and Rochdale MBC aiding them in the delivery of full audio visual entertainment systems and lighting solutions into many of their fitness suites and children's gyms.
The most notable of these projects has to be the fully specified provision of audio visual entertainment systems and controlled LED lighting solutions for the 2 gyms and studio, along with a digital media messaging system throughout the whole building for the brand new £14.2m Middleton Arena.
Operations Manager James Foley stated "I am extremely happy, not only with the level of service but the commitment shown by Unique Systems (AV) Ltd from project onset some 12 months prior to the site opening right through to a professional and courteous install". John Taylor, Head of Sport and Leisure Services also remarked "The finished product is absolutely great and has helped us achieve that WOW factor we were striving for"
